Ceramic Care Instructions

We take great care in making every single piece we make. When it comes to designing a product and it’s functionality,  we are mindful of the shape and the aesthetics to encourage regular use and pleasure.  With this regular use means care needs to be taken to help ensure they’ll last a lifetime.

We believe if you buy quality products and take care of them, you buy less overall and in return we are kinder to the planet.

How to look after your ceramics

Try not to knock or drop your piece. Use both hands when handling and be mindful of how you store so your new pottery isn’t going to be knocked.

Avoid scratching the surface of your ceramics. Poor quality cutlery are made from soft metals so try to use good quality utensils.

Can your piece go into the dishwasher?

Because we use high quality clay and glazes all of our pieces are        theoretically “dishwasher safe”. However, hand washing is gentler and kinder to your ceramics and last a lifetime.                                                           If you do want to put your ceramics into the dishwasher ensure it is packed carefully and allow the piece to cool completely in the dishwasher before removing to reduce the chances of thermal shock.

Why are dishwashers hard on your ceramics?

· harsh detergents can etch away at the glazes over time.

· The powerful sprays means your ceramics can be banged and jostled against others, which can cause cracks and breakage

Can you microwave your pots?

You can use your pots in the microwave. But, please be aware all   microwaves are different so they may have variable effects. Never put a ceramic piece in the microwave that has gold on it.

Thermal Shock

Even though the ceramics we produce have been in the kiln and reached above 1200ºC, drastic changes in temperature can cause  ceramics to break.

To help prevent thermal shock :

· Allow boiled water to cool slightly before pouring into your    ceramics or put a metal spoon in it before pouring in the hot water as the spoon will absorb some of the heat.

· Never place your hot ceramic piece into cold water, allow it to cool before you wash it.

· Never place a ceramic piece directly from the fridge into a  preheated oven. Always allow it to come to room temperature first.

· Never place ceramics on a direct heat source such as the stove top or open flame unless it is flame ware clay.
